چکیده

An experiment with different filter beds and macrophytes was carried out to study their phytoremediation capacity on the efficiency of domestic wastewater treatment through constructed wetland (CW) from November March 2017-18 at University Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad campus, Karnataka. Twenty combinations involving five types (FB-1: gravel, FB-2: gravel-sand-gravel, FB-3: gavel-sand-brick-gravel, FB-4: gravel-sand-charcoal-gravel FB-5: gravel-sand-(charcoal+brick)-gravel) four (MP-1: Typha latifolia, MP-2: Brachiaria mutica, MP-3: Canna indica MP-4: Phragmites sp.) were evaluated for treating waste water. After 120 days start, across combinations, water electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved suspended solids (TDS-TSS), biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical (COD), sodium, sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), residual carbonate (RSC), bicarbonates, nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (N-P-K) boron (B) reduced by more than 40 percent due treatment. The system enhanced mineralization organic nitrogen ammoniacal (NH4+-N) nitrate-nitrogen (NO3-N) fractions. Among beds, Type-5 caused a higher reduction in pH, EC, BOD, COD, Organic-N, while Type-4 proved efficient removing lowering pH sewage effluent. Type-3 bed removed solids, potassium, nitrogen. macrophytes, (Paragrass) nitrogen, phosphorus boron. flexibility implementation allows CW be adapted sites configurations, being suitable as main, secondary, or tertiary stage.

Performance of constructed wetland systems treating anerobic effluents.

The purpose of this present paper is to verify the performance of three wetland systems operated with effluents from a UASB reactor, with respect nutrient removal (nitrogen and phosphorus), pathogenic organisms and remaining carbonaceous material, monitored over a three-year period. The experiment was carried out and monitored at PROSAB (Programa de Saneamento Básico) in Campina Grande, Paraíba...

Nutrient removal efficiency by floating macrophytes; Lemna minor and Azolla pinnata in a constructed wetland

The use of constructed wetlands for purifying pre-treated wastewater is a cost effective technology that has been found to be more appropriate for many developing countries. The technology is also environmentally friendly with the wetlands being habitats for many water birds and other aquatic organisms. This study assessed nutrient removal efficiency of two floating macrophytes (Lemna minor...

Danish guidelines for small-scale constructed wetland systems for onsite treatment of domestic sewage.

The Danish Ministry of Environment and Energy has passed new legislation that requires the wastewater from single houses and dwellings in rural areas to be treated adequately before discharge into the aquatic environment. Therefore official guidelines for a number of onsite treatment solutions have been produced. These include guidelines for soakaways, biological sand filters, technical systems...

Emergy Distribution in Oxidation Pond and Constructed Wetland treating a Domestic Wastewater

Two identical pilot-scale reactors – one as an oxidation pond (OP) and the other as a freewater-surface-flow constructed wetland (CW) planted with Cyperus papyrus – were fed with a lowstrength domestic wastewater at the organic loading rate of 16 kg BOD/ha-d. The purpose of this study was to investigate how the solar energy dissipated into the biomass productivities during the wastewater treatm...

Phytoremediation of Cadmium in Polluted Effluents by Pharagmites Australis in Constructed Wetland

Background and Objectives: With increasing population, the process of contamination of water resources has intensified and humans need new and inexpensive ways to refine and improve water quality. Heavy metals are the environmental pollutants that originate mainly from industrial and agricultural activities and are found in all parts of the industrial communities. This research was conducted to...
